The Bottled Bartender

The

Civility & Unrest recently hosted its first cocktail competition inviting mixologists from some of the area’s best bars to throw down in the Battle of the Bartenders. The event was sponsored by Ketel One Botanical, a new line of botanical-infused vodkas. Each competing bartender had to utilize the Grapefruit & Rose flavor in his or her concoction. During the first round, the drink also needed to include beets in some form — a strange wildcard.

Competitors included Ascend’s Chris Bolin, Daniels Bellevue’s Will Mar, Il Bistro’s Dan Jansky, Loulay’s Chase Cornell, Wild Ginger Bellevue’s Tyler Stansfield, and Canon’s Curtis Hayes. Drinks ranged from refreshing to strange (chorizo in a cocktail?) to a glass of what was essentially ice cream.

Bolin and Hayes impressed the judges (who included former Seahawk Sidney Rice; Diageo’s Raymond Stencel; El Gaucho’s Lonnie Anderson; and me, writer Julie Arnan), and they moved on to the final round, where the beet was dropped. Bolin’s take on an Old Fashioned based with rum knocked Hayes’ out of the ring, making Bolin the first Battle of the Bartenders champion. In addition to a nice prize, Bolin’s cocktail will be added to the Civility & Unrest menu.

I’ve had the pleasure of sampling a few of their bottled mixes and would be happy to pop open another to pour for a friend. Heck, for one special reader, I’d even go so far as to pass along nine of The Bottled Bartender’s drinks to be delivered free to your door.

Keen for a sip? Keep reading.
Just in time for more “new normal” staying in, The Bottled Bartender brings the bar to you with an impressive range of quality cocktails bottled up for you to enjoy on your own time wherever you please.

I really like Bottled Bartender’s Negroni (Bombay Sapphire gin, sweet red vermouth, Aperol and orange bitters) and Margarita (Olmeca tequila, Cointreau, fresh lime juice and a hint of agave syrup). The startup’s Mai Tai does justice to a cocktail that ranks among my favourites but that I seldom order because it’s usually never made as was intended. So bravo Bottled Bartender for doing your homework and applying “ain’t broke/don’t fix” ethos to your mixology.
